Paul Debevec - Do We Have Photoreal Digital Actors?

A graduate of Urbana's University High School, Debevec leads the graphics laboratory at USC's Institute for Creative Technologies, helping develop the next generation of virtual reality. He is known for influential graphics research in the areas of image-based modeling and rendering, high dynamic range imaging, image-based lighting, and photoreal digital humans. Techniques from his work have been seen in movies such as The Matrix, Spider-Man 2, Superman Returns, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Avatar. In February 2010 he received an Academy Award for the design and engineering of the Light Stage systems for character relighting in motion pictures.
